A Little History – The 100-Year-Old House
The 100-Year-Old House has lived more than one life.
Originally built in 1912 in Hurlingham, Nairobi, it stood quietly for over a century before the land was sold for redevelopment. A skyscraper was planned. The house was due to be demolished.
In December 2018, we decided to rescue it.
Piece by piece, beam by beam, it was carefully dismantled, transported to Nanyuki and rebuilt here at One Stop. It took many months of patient work to put her back together — preserving a small but meaningful part of Kenya’s architectural history.
Today, she stands proudly again. Restored, thoughtfully decorated, and surrounded by garden with open views of Mount Kenya and the Aberdare mountains.
The House Today
The house has three bedrooms, a kitchen, a wide veranda and a comfortable sitting room with a fireplace.
-
One double bedroom with en-suite bathroom
-
Two additional bedrooms that share a bathroom
(These can be made up as singles or doubles if requested in advance)
A private garden surrounds the house, making it feel tucked away and peaceful, despite being so conveniently located.
It is fully equipped with:
-
Large fridge-freezer
-
Toaster and kettle
-
Gas burner and oven
-
Indoor and outdoor seating areas
A daily cleaner can visit to wash up and tidy the house if desired, at no extra charge — so you can properly relax.
Why It Matters
We didn’t want to see a 1912 house disappear without trace.
Moving it here felt like giving it another chapter — rooted in Laikipia soil, with mountain air and space around it.
It is, quite literally, a piece of Nairobi history now resting under Mount Kenya.
